Steps to Developing a Healthy Body Image
Challenge our cultures definition of beauty
“Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God“. I Peter 3:3-4
Today`s culture is obsessed with appearances. As Christians, our focus should include taking care of our bodies, and focusing on inner beauty.
To me, the most beautiful women are those with good character and inner strength who give love and encouragement to those around her every day.
Accept the body that God gave you and learn to be thankful for it
“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1Thess. 5:18
The next time you are tempted to complain about your body, consider the practice of author Lorraine Pintus. In her book, Intimate Issues, Loraine recalls a time she was particularly unhappy with her body. She stood in front of a mirror and thanked God for each part of her body starting with her hair all the way down to her toes. Thankfulness has a way of changing our perspective.
Take care of your body
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)
Exercise and proper eating keep you healthy and energized so you are better able to carry out your daily tasks and increase your quality of life.
Develop your inner beauty and talents and spiritual gifts
“Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed”. 1 Cor. 12:1
God designed each one of us with talents and abilities. Christians have a further blessing of Spiritual Gifts.
